?: How durable is a glass sink?
Robert: Glass sinks are extremely durable if treated right. The rims are double strength and the bottom is the thickest point (1" to 1-1/8" thick). Normal everyday items used in a bathroom such as brushes, combs, plastic bottles, rings or small jewelry will not scratch or break a sink. Any heavy item such as a drinking glass, or a heavy perfume bottle dropped into your sink can do irreparable damage, but the most common cause of breakage is improper installation. (See our Warranty page for more information.)
?: Can hot water break a glass sink?
Robert: Yes. Running hot water (at or above 120º F or 49º C) into a cold glass sink can cause breakage. To put it simply, there is no reason to have water so hot that you can not put your hand under it. I suggest adjusting the settings on your hot water tank. You'll save energy too!
?: Are glass sinks easy to install?
Robert: Anyone with some basic plumbing skills can install a glass sink, although it is always easier to hire a plumber. He or she may know some tricks that will make your sink trouble free. (See our Warranty page for more information.)

Overmount
|
Robert: A Vessel Mount is a bowl shaped basin with a thicker band of glass around the rim. It can be pedestal-mounted, half-mounted, or set in. They are typically 6" to 6 1/2" tall and16" to 17" in diameter. An Over-mount has a flat wide lip and is designed to be set into the countertop or under-mounted. They are typically 6" to 6 1/2" tall and 18" to 19" in diameter at the outside of the lip.
Robert: A lip wrap is a separate band of glass that forms the rim or lip of the bowl. A variety of colors are available for customizing your sink. you may choose one from another design, create your own by sending a color sample, or visit Olympic Color Rods to see hundreds of available colors.
?: What drains do you recommend for use with your sinks?
Robert: We drill and bevel our sink basins for a 2" drain. For best results, we recommend either Alchemy's "Strainer Drain Assembly" or Brass Tech's part #3211. Both drains fit well and are available in a variety of finishes. Visit Alchemy or Brass Tech for specific information.
(When I last checked
the Brass Tech web site, the photo of #3211 was not loading properly, but
it
looks like #321 without the hole for the overflow.)

?: To illuminate my sink, should lights be placed above it or below it?
Robert: That depends on which design you have; it is largely a matter of preference. The best way to decide is to use a light that you can move around and place it below the sink and see how it looks, then move the light above the sink and look at it again (this works better in a dimly lit room). However, if you are looking for recommendations, these are the sinks or collections that I would illuminate from the top: The Iridescent Collection, The Tortoise Shell Collection, The Stringer Collection, Mediterranean Twist, Midas, Cosmos, Tortoise Shell Rhapsody, and Twisted Bronze Oz. The remainder of my designs would look beautiful illuminated from either position.
?: Why would I want to illuminate my sink?
Robert: Nothing brings out the beauty of colored glass like lighting! It really transforms your sink into a striking centerpiece for your powder room or bath.
?: What should/shouldn't I use to clean my sink?
Robert: To avoid scratching the glossy surface of the glass:
?: How do I need to package a sink for shipment so that it won't break?
Robert: To ship a sink to any location, or for any reason, you should pack the sink in the same boxes that it came in. If you do not have the original packing materials, you must double box the sink. Both the inside and outside box must have 2" of packing material on all sides. No carrier or insurance company will guarantee against breakage if a single box is used or there is insufficient packing material. For a vessel mount sink, we use an inside box that is 18" x 18" x 12," and an outside box that is 24" x 24" x 19." For an overmount sink, we use an inside box that is 24" x 24" x 12," and an outside box that is 26" x 26" x 20."
